Iberian walnut

THE 'BRUTAL' WOOD

The ancient tradition in Spain was to plant a walnut to set the limits of ground properties and families heritage. Therefore only the owner of it has the rights to decide harvest it when the property pass to other. Also are harvested to savage it when dead or fallen after the storm.

These trees grow very free in the nature growing for long time and the main characteristic are the contrast coloured lines inside them. From pale yellow to black there's a wide range of tones in the middle doing an spectacle of nature itself.

We like it because every piece of wood is very unique . Never can get a plain texture of the same tone when joining the planks to each other. And to emphasize this 'brutalism' of iberian walnut we made a hole block composed of multiple blocks from different trees to create these pieces of sculptoric furniture. Then on that 'brutal' blocks, Jordi Sarrate starts the hand sculptoric work on it inspired by natural organic shapes and by the feelings through the hands.
